Last night was my very first performance. Of course, my heart was pounding the second I started doing hair and makeup. Tyler, as Reverend Tollhouse, did a very good job in his opening monologue, starting the show off with some laughs. Samantha, as Sister Donderstock, was so cute. All of her reactions were great and it was fun to watch her offstage. Joe, Brother Brightbee, had a wardrobe malfunction with his beard, but dealt with it like a pro and even got the audience to laugh.
I entered during Scene II and was shaking so bad. I realized half way through the scene that I wasn’t Sister Butterworth; I was a very scared Natalie trying to be Sister Butterworth. Sister Butterworth did end up making it on stage before the end of the scene, and my other characters found their way on stage with no problem.
It was such an exciting experience and I realized 2 minutes before I went to bed that I had done nothing to commemorate my first performance!
I have bruises all over my forearms from scene changes. My costume changes are rushed and nerve wracking. I have no idea how to do the curtain call and I lead the bow. I am loving every second of it. After one experience I think I understand why actors love the stage.
I have a bit where I’ve been blindfolded to taste test cheeseballs. The two Brothers stomp off stage, only I don’t know it. I ramble on and on, and it’s such an amazing feeling to have people laugh. I am absolutely addicted.
Next week when we get back from the theatre festival, we are starting work on Medea right away.
I’m glad because I have fallen in love with the stage.

Nat,
I feel that a comment of my own would be too mundane… So, I’ll let Oscar Wilde and Cynthia Heimel say what I can’t.
“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” -Oscar Wilde
“When in doubt, make a fool of yourself. There is a microscopically thin line between being brilliantly creative and acting like the most gigantic idiot on earth. So what the hell, leap.”
-Cynthia Heimel
