What I really want to say is…

The Smoke Joint

April 29, 2009 · 9 Comments

There are not a whole lot of BBQ places in New York.  You are shocked by this, I see.

While out enjoying the lovely weather (which I have a feeling will be happening more and more often) we came across The Smoke Joint.

Besides having a clever name, the scents emanating from the place were saliva inducing.

The pork sandwich was massive.  In fact, I didn’t even finish it.  It was a little on the dry side, but I am spoiled by Texas Barbeque.  I should have gotten the fries instead of the beans.  Not that the beans were bad, but there was so much pork on the beans that it was like having more of my sandwich.  I did steal some of the seasoned fries though and my goodness were they yummy.     The people next to us got hot dogs and mac & cheese for the kids, and it looked like some serious deliciousness.

On a scale of 1-5 Ninja Monkeys:

Atmosphere:  3 Ninja Monkeys (It was a little cramped, and I wanted more rustic.)

Food: 4 Ninja Monkeys

Drinks: N/A (but the Black Cherry soda was pretty yummilicious!)

Service: 2-3 Ninja Monkeys  (Nice girls, but took waaaaaaaay too long to take our order)

Music: N/A

Overall, I give the place 3 Ninja Monkeys.  I’ll probably go back though if I’m really hankerin for some BBQ.  Maybe I’ll try something different next time.

the picture of the beans made me throw up in my mouth. just a little bit. i can’t believe you ate those. ummm… no thanks.

really, i’m just not much of a BBQ kinda girl. don’t think i’ll ever visit the smoke joint.

seeing as it only got 3 ninja monkeys in a recent review, i’m feeling pretty okay about that decision.

Teehee…when I saw the beans I thought they looked like something from Star Trek! HA!
It does sound good though. I can’t wait till Josh and I can get some time to take a trip to see you. Then you can take us to all the cool little places you’ve found!

For some reason, I really love reviews. Don’t know why. :D Not likely to ever be around said Smoke Joint, or partake of their fare … but I sure did love reading about it!

They just put in this BBQ place here, where the Prairie House use to be. Delicious pulled pork but they never put enough bbq sauce…I add more of course. The fries also have this amazing seasoning that I can’t figure out.

I like beans, but those beans were just plain scary!

    Yeah.
Um. Those beans look awesomely gross.

    Good review. I enjoyed reading.

am i the only one here who thinks those beans look really yummy?

of course, it might not seem as appetizing if i were eating a pork sandwhich as well, but i mean….

    all beans are beautiful.

    Diggin’ the review,
    Cravin’ barbecue.

    Wish I was in NYC,
    To hang with Natalie.

(Don’t ask why… I guess contemplating cuisine on an empty tummy makes me wax poetic.)
