What I really want to say is…

The Godfather

May 1, 2009 · 10 Comments

For someone who claims to enjoy watching movies, there are a whole bunch of movies that I have never seen, that I should.

One that is no longer on the “No, I have not seen that… yet” list is The Godfather.

There are a few things about my viewing experience that I am ashamed to admit.

  1. I did not recognize Al Pacino.
  2. I remembered the scene where Don Corleone dies…. but because Leslie Nielsen spoofed it.
  3. I saw so many things coming because they have become part of pop culture…. the horse head, the exploding car, the cannoli line…..

But now I understand, “I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.”

Even though I don’t plan on ever seeing any of the Godfather films, I am beginning to see the importancce in viewing and reading important pop culture works, if only to understand references to them in other films/books. When you understand pop culture references it usually makes for a richer experience.

:) I’ve only seen the Godfather movies in part. When they’re on the TV, Ben will watch them, and I pass through the living room now and then. :) But … I must admit, they’re not my favorites. Everyone says it’s a ‘guy thing.’ In this case … it must be.

Awesome! I’m always excited when a new initiate joins the Godfather club. ;) Congratulations!!

My wife knew all the lines from it because of You’ve Got Mail before she saw it.

I’m sure you’ve heard by now – Godfather 1 & 2 are classics, GF 3 not so much. (Fortunately, Sophia Coppola later found her true calling as a director – NOT as an actress.)

Ah, the Godfather. I haven’t seen it in years, but I can say that I have seen it. What else is on your list of movies you need to see? Mine imaginary one is soooooo long…

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?! See the movie! See I AND II! Watch III and cringe. DO IT!

Fritch: Yes, my Godfather Guide won’t even LET me see the 3rd. Which is fine with me. I’m satisfied with where I was left at 2, although I prefer the 1st one.

    And Scott: NO!

Karah: My list is so long. Rocky just came up this morning as one, and I hung my head in shame.

I have to agree with Scott…See I AND II! Watch III and cringe. It only aids in the enjoyment of the original to see the saga to it’s completion.
